What is Heartworm?

Heartworm is a potentially fatal disease spread by mosquitoes and most commonly found in dogs (although it is occasionally found in cats). As its name implies, heartworm lives in the blood of a pet's heart and blood vessels causing heart failure and lung disease. They can also travel throughout the body, via the blood vessels, causing damage to other organs.

Prevention is the best approach in keeping your pet safe from heartworm disease. We also recommend annual screenings, even if your pet is already on heartworm preventatives.
